In Loving Memory (1933-2024) ~
Joan Margaret Pennimpede (nee Postgate) passed away peacefully Mar 5, 2024 at the age of 91, with her family at her side.
She will be lovingly remembered by sons Paul (Chrisanne), Joe (Irene), daughter Sue (Rick); Frank's second wife, Herma; sister-in-law, BeeGee, 3 nieces, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her ex-husband, Frank; sister, Kathleen; sister-in-law, Noni; brother-in-law, Bob; son, Tom, and infant son Peter.
Joan was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. She met the love of her life, Frank, at their high school graduation dance, and they were married upon completion of Frank's military training in 1953. Within a year, they had started a family, having four children in four years.
For the next twenty years the family was fully immersed in Forces life including moving every couple of years. Joan was a strong and resourceful person who gardened, canned, processed wild fish and game, and sewed, all to help make ends meet. She was the glue that held the family together.
When Frank retired from the Forces in 1973, they moved back to Vancouver, and within a year settled in Port Hardy. Joan was a stoic individual who took life's challenges head on.
In 1980 Joan was diagnosed with MS. She and Frank separated in 1984 with Joan moving back to the lower mainland. In 1988, she settled into KinVillage in Delta where she continued to live until her passing. She was actively involved in social and fundraising activities for KinVillage and the MS Society.
She was fiercely independent and maintained this right up to her last days. She lived her life the way that she saw fit and we children cherish her for that.
